American Online Personality Fined After Mass E-Bike Ride on Iconic Australian Bridge

New South Wales authorities have issued a fine against an American social media personality and handed out two traffic infringement notices for alleged negligent driving after a large group of electric bicycle users converged on the famous Sydney landmark during peak-hour traffic on Tuesday.

The Event: A Prohibited Ride

A group of approximately 40 individuals riding e-bikes and motorcycles travelled along the primary roadway of the bridge, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The assembly then turned around and traveled through the downtown area and Haymarket.

"There was potential for people to be injured and killed," stated NSW police assistant commissioner the officer on the following day.

Law enforcement indicated they did not immediately pursue the group out of concerns for public safety but instead located the assembly at a scenic Sydney lookout near the Botanic Gardens, at which point they broke up.

Fines Imposed for Content Creator

Later in the week, police stated they had issued the US social media influencer who goes by Sur Ronster, 26, with two violation tickets for negligent driving (with no death or previous bodily harm), with a fine of $562 and three demerit points per notice, connected to the bridge incident. They added that inquiries were continuing.

The influencer reportedly has over 3.4 million subscribers on one platform and more than 1.2m on Instagram.

Influencer's Comments

The online figure gave comments to a local publication recently after the incident spread rapidly on digital platforms, saying he was sorry for giving "the biking community" a negative image.

"I’ll probably take responsibility. That was one of the safest gatherings I’ve ever seen," he said. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to come here respecting the rules and standards of Sydney. So when I decided to do a meet and greet it did not involve a group ride, it was just to greet people near the bridge."

"I’m unfamiliar with the city, I am to blame we found ourselves on the bridge and I had a decision to make: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and turns around, which is a crime. Or we reverse, basically, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to turn around."

Broader Context on E-Bike Regulation

The spate of electric bicycles on streets across the country has prompted increasing demands for stricter rules. The federal health minister, the minister, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Young people have engaged in stupid things on bikes since the invention of the early bicycle [but] the injuries that are coming into our ERs are absolutely devastating," the minister said. "We’ve got to make sure we stop these things coming into the country [and] police are given the authority to take strong action, to confiscate them, to crush them, to dispose of them."

The state recorded 226 injuries related to ebikes in 2024. But, in the initial half of 2025, that number jumped to 233 injuries plus four fatalities.
